No party in the park for 2007 ??

The photo above was taken at Party in the park in Boston last year, it is one of my favourite shots I took there, I like it because the girl is almost falling out the frame towards the viewer.

Fast forward to July 2007 and it just has not stop ed raining, Boston council have sadly announced that party in the park has been cancelled, they say on there website that it may be put on later in the year. The cynical side of me thinks that the huge underground water tank they have built in the park is not completed either so there would be no PITP had it been dry.

I hope the weather improves and PITP go on this year, I hope it doesn't wash out the Edinburgh fringe festival as I will be really fed up!

Agfapan Heaven (well almost!)

To some this may be Agfapan heaven to others its a load of B&W film in a box.
It really would be heaven if the 100 rolls of 120 Agfapan 400 was Agfapan 25 or 100. But the 400 is a very fine B&W, it has wonderful tones and really nice grain and is very sharp. I have found Agfapan 400 develops well in Aculux 2 and Rodinal special (for fine grain and good sharpness) If you want grain and good sharpness rate it at 200-320 asa and develop in Rodinal 1:50
Agfa B&W films are hugly underrated films and unfortunately are no longer manufacture after the Liquidation of Agfa Photo.
There is allot of 35mm Agfapan for sale with long self life. If you shoot B&W try this film and if you like it fill up your freezer with Agfapan 100.
Last week on ebay I saw 6 rolls of Agfapan 100 in 120 format go for £26. I got my 100 rolls of Agfapan form a Pro-photographer who had gone digital, the film in the photo has been frozen from new and has lost no emulsion speed and has no base fog.
Still puzzled about this film give it a go or look up Agfapan on Google.

Voigtlander Brillant. Tattershall

I took this shot in Tattershall when I was running a roll of film through another Voightlander Brillant I have bought. It has the 75mm Skopar lens. After getting the compur shutter going with a few drops of lighter fluid and a tiny amount of oil, and cleaning the lens elements it looks to be a good shooter.

The Yellow Peril. May o7

What you are looking at here is a Kodachrome of a field of oil seed rape.

A nightmare for sufferers of hay fever. If you have wondered why thee is so much oil seed rape about? I am told it is being grown for bio fuel.

Here is another Kodachrome taken from Hume Castle, there was a bit of mist but that's nothing unusual for the east coast of Scotland.

Since taking these photographs Kodak has ceased production of Kodachrome 200 so get it while you can.

Tattershall Trinity Collegiate Church 23/04/07

If you have visited this blog before and looked at any of my photographs you will notice that these ones are a little different. The reason is I have a new lens, I got my hands an an ex rental 15mm 3.5 Nikkor from Calumet.
This is a really wide angle lens, despite the extreme wide angle (for film) it has very little distortion the lines in the church are not bent all over the place. Although I would love a very inexpensive wide angle with loads of distortion.
This lens is ideal for interiors of buildings, you have to be careful with this lens as it has a very large and rather exposed front element, and it is prone to flair.
I have also been experimenting with Tri-X and dilute Microdol-x. The microdol x yields extremely fine grain when used un diluted, you do loose a bit of emulsion speed, and its not terribly sharp, (great for portraits) When you use it at 1-3 you get a bit more speed and actuance and a compensating effect, just the job for inside churches.

Only in Norwich 23-06-07

I got the train to Norwich on Saturday, I have not been there for a while, I have photographed this chap before but I couldn't resist another shot. Boston would be a whole lot more interesting with people like this on the streets.

I was using a film that I have not used before, it is call ERA Pan, it is made in China it is very inexpensive and from my fist roll I will say its a very good film. good tones fine grain good sharpness and no nasty curl on the film which is a real pain if you are scanning.

I was also using my New canon A1 I had to get another one as my other one has electrical problems, it did suffer from shutter squeal which is common for A series Canons. The problem is caused by the reflex mirror brake bearings running dry and squealing when the mirror moves. Fortunately I was in a camera shop in Norwich and the proprietor fixed it for me free of charge, with a tiny drop of oil in the right place administered with a bent hypodermic needle. The A1 now sounds much better.

Very High River Levels. Boston 26-06-07

After the heavy rain the river levels on the Witham have risen to very high levels.
There has been flooding in Lincoln which is further up stream from where these two photographs were taken. The tides have not been helping as there has not been a very low tide. There are lock gates at sluice bridge in Boston that control the flow of water into the tidal part of the river.

Market Day

A busker performing on market day in Boston he was getting more funny looks than coins.
This is my first outing with my replacement Canon A1 my other one has an electrical fault that means that it still works but eats battery's if it is left on for any length of time. The FD 20mm is also a new purchase all the way from the USA.
